Dear Community,

I hope you are still healthy and enjoying more time outside in our beautiful San Diego weather with more access to our beaches and parks! I know I have been walking a lot more.

Reminder: For those students and families who have participated, or want to participate, in the community service project of writing cards to residents at Brookdale Assisted Living facility, you may drop off the cards between today and Monday, May 11th at the school, or you may mail them to the office before Monday. Please do not seal the envelopes as the facility has ways to clean all mail before giving it to their residents. This is a wonderful way to show you care and to give a smile to older people in our neighborhood.

Monday, May 11th, 8:00 – 3:00 – Teachers will be letting you know if they have additional work for parents to pick up and/or request student work to be dropped off for teachers to review and assess. Please return any library books to the box in your child’s classroom if you will be on campus.

Since I have missed seeing all of our DMP students, I thought it would be fun to lead a Virtual Scavenger Hunt with all the classes. This will be an optional Zoom activity for whoever wants to participate (siblings are welcome to join). I will be emailing the links to the parents on these days. I hope to see many of our students join in and have some fun with me! The schedule is:

Friday, May 8 from 2:30 – 3:00 First Grade

Tuesday, May 12 from 2:30 – 3:00 Kindergarten/Second Grades

Wednesday, May 13 from 2:30 – 3:00 Third/Fourth Grades

Friday, May 15 from 2:30 – 3:00 Fifth/Sixth Grades

DMP Community Drive-Thru Parade – Saturday, May 16th, 2:00 – 2:30 pm

Our teachers miss all of our families and we thought it would be fun to have a DMP Parade on Torrington Street. Teachers will come wearing masks and practicing social distancing all along the street from 2:00 – 2:30 pm. We will have balloons and fun music playing to add to the festivities. Families can drive by, wave, shout, and see their teachers and campus. We hope this will be a fun way to see each other in a safe way.

I continue to be impressed by the engagement of our teachers, students, and parents as we move ahead with our remote learning in all grades. I feel confident that our students are getting the best education possible under the current circumstances and that they will be prepared for the next school year.

Thank you for all the support you have given our teachers and your children to make the best of our current situation. I know we all look forward to the time when we can all be together.

I wish all of our mothers a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!
