Bringing History to Life: DMP 6th Grade Social Studies
Social Studies includes enjoyable hands-on activities. DMP 6th grade students simulate the process of archaeological excavations using cookies to discover how an excavation is both destructive and scientific. While studying Mesopotamia, our students learn to write in cuneiform on clay tablets. A class favorite is discovering the beauty of ancient Egypt while being guided through independent research and creating an artistically designed book about this amazing civilization.
While exploring ancient China, students are introduced to Confucianism, Taoism, and legalism by learning in a classroom using each of these philosophies to experience first-hand what the principles of each were like. When students are immersed in ancient Greece by becoming Greek Hellenes and “living” in city-states they are captivated! They learn about the history, culture, and contributions of this important civilization by participating and competing in a variety of exciting activities including our Greek Day festivities. DMP 6th grade wraps up the spring play season with a fun filled musical production of Theseus and the Minotaur where we learn if the half man, half bull creature will devour all the Athenians and how Theseus becomes the hero he was destined to be.
