DMP Buddies: Sixth Grade/Kindergarten Buddies Form a Special Bond

At DMP, each kindergartener is paired with a compatible 6th graders to be “Buddies” for the year. This special program extends our 6th graders’ leadership experience as they help to successfully mentor, support, excite and lead our new DMP students through their first year of elementary school. The DMP Buddie Program provides frequent and stimulating opportunities for learning and skill development. Both age levels get to practice taking turns, listening, sharing knowledge, praising each other’s efforts, helping one another, and completing tasks. 

This is a wonderful program that ensures a culture of community. As the older students assume the role of mentors, they are motivated to do their best and experience pride in their ability to be helpful. The children bond with each other and friendships flourish as the year progresses. Our 6th grade/ Kindergarten buddies often remain friends throughout their lives. The Buddies Program is a sixth-grade favorite!
