Our 6th grade students made a positive impact on the world! Young people hold the key to creating a better future and here at Del Mar Pines School we make sure they have opportunities to see how they can make the world a better place. Inspired by the novel, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, our students realized the positive impact they could make. They wanted to help contribute to the installation of deep-water wells in the remote villages of South Sudan, where they are in dire need of clean water.

From that desire, our students decided to host a fundraiser to raise money to provide better access to clean water. The students researched facts, created brochures in Photoshop and passed them out to educate others.

The fundraiser began with the 6th-graders walking around our DMP neighborhood carrying water jugs on their heads to help them understand what Sudanese women and children must do for several hours a day, just to have water. Our 6th graders spoke about our cause to family and friends, hosted a bake sale and in the end, made a global impact by raising over $12,000 for a cause they found important.
